New Zealand Currency

New Zealand's unit of currency is the New Zealand dollar (NZ$).

You can easily exchange your foreign currency at New Zealand banks, New Zealand Post Shops, some hotels and Bureau de Change kiosks (found at international airports and most city centres).

All major credit cards are accepted in New Zealand. Travellers Cheques are accepted at some places such as hotels, banks and some stores.

New Zealand Banks

Most New Zealand banks are open from 9:30am - 4:30pm. Some banks offer weekend services, and may extend their weekday opening hours.

Tipping in New Zealand

Tipping is not mandatory in New Zealand, however it is optional. Most restaurants, hotels and bars have voluntary tipping jars for those who are happy with their service. New Zealand hotels and restaurants do not add tipping charges to their bills.
